I wasn't feeling too excited about our trip to Cornwall last week. Our previous camping trip down there had set a massively high bar, with hot weather, crystal-clear water, and total peace save for the gentle clinking of boat masts in the harbour at our campsite.
The weather forecast for this trip looked pretty horrendous. Rain was looming, and the pre-trip dread was real. But we packed our tents and the insane amounts of gear we seem to need to take, embraced the uncertainty, and headed west.
Hurrah! The rain held off during the day, the sun broke through, and we got our sea swims, our ice creams, and our coastal walks. But last Monday night, nature handed us something far beyond a lucky weather break.
At 10:30 pm, under the clearest, darkest sky I’ve ever seen in the UK, stars upon stars against pitch black, we walked down the stony, ancient tree-covered path to the river. The water was dark, still, and clear as glass.
We didn't really know what to expect when we dipped our feet in, but the water instantly lit up. Tiny sparks of bioluminescence ignited everywhere the plankton was disturbed. Swimming in it felt like floating through the night sky, every stroke leaving trails of tiny stars. It was eerie, mind-blowing, and magical.
It struck me how much this night mirrored the work I do every day in hypnotherapy.

The Fear of the Forecast: We so often let anticipation shape our reality. We look ahead, predict the worst, and build up anxiety over things that haven't even happened yet. If I had let the rainy forecast dictate my choice, I would have missed the night of a lifetime.
-
Stepping Into the Dark: To get to that quiet creek, we had to walk through the pitch-black woods without knowing exactly what awaited us at the water's edge. Transformation often requires stepping past our comfort zone into the unknown.

The Magic Beneath the Surface: The bioluminescence was always there, waiting just beneath the dark, still water. It only needed a little movement to reveal its light. Our minds work the exact same way - the calm, clarity, and inner resources we search for are often already sitting quietly beneath the surface, waiting to be uncovered.
When we stop letting our worries write the script for the future, we leave room for life to surprise us.
